Week 3
Alex C:
Despite the shortened week due to the holiday, I maximized my time by concentrating on my duties within the sales department. With several projects on the horizon for the sales team, I dedicated myself to refining my skills for the weekly CPFR file task. Additionally, I undertook extra projects, including a pricing project and a weight analysis for a freight truck that was reportedly overloaded. To address these tasks, I extensively used Excel, employing commands like XLOOKUP to match our parts with those of our top customers to determine weights. This process was invaluable, offering me substantial exposure to both our master file and our customers' master files. By Friday afternoon, after completing my primary tasks, I turned my attention to XTV interchanges for product management. Each day, I am becoming more proficient with Excel and gaining deeper insights into our product offerings and how we compare to our top competitors. Overall, even with the shortened week, it was highly productive, significantly enhancing my Excel skills and expanding my understanding of our parts and competitive landscape.
Jack T:
This week, I collaborated with Morgan and Brian to help set up NYA (Not Yet Available) parts. The customer sends a purchase order request specifying the type of part they need and the anticipated monthly demand. Since it's a new part, GSP only orders the quantity that the company expects to be demanded. There must be an agreement that the company will purchase a certain number of parts for us to fulfill the order.
By leveraging this experience, I can demonstrate a practical understanding of economic principles and the ability to analyze data. It was intriguing to observe the process of new parts being created in BC and to consider how we would allocate the allotted product. Being involved in the entire process of creating new parts was a fascinating experience.
